Scripture: “For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light!” – Ephesians 5:8 (NLT).
Meditate: Through these words, “now you have light from the Lord” God has made known to us a truly blissful truth, i.e. we don’t have to grope in the dark like we used to anymore, because we have within us God’s Light!
Yes, once our lives was filled with sin’s darkness, steeped deep in the muck of sinfulness, a personification of wickedness, but from the day we invited Jesus into our lives, by accepting Him as our Savior and Lord, His Light has expelled darkness out of our lives – so we don’t have to stumble anymore.
This also means from then on, His Light has to shine forth from our lives, because now you are light in the Lord. We are out in the open now and the bright Light of Christ makes our way plain, hence we need live like children of the Light. Figure out what will please Christ, and then do it. The good, the right, the true, these are the actions appropriate as children of the Light.
Let us walk as children of Light, leading lives reflecting as those born of God, native-born to the Light. If Jesus is truly living in you, then His very light should be shining through you, because of your union with Him. Our mission as Christians is to live as people flooded with His revelation-light! So it’s time to get on with it!
We hear so much in Christendom about the importance of us reflecting God. But what does it truly mean to reflect God? It means to reflect His nature (qualities, characteristics, attributes) 24x7 all the days of our lives. Which means, people need to see, experience and understand through our words and deeds about His love, patience, grace, mercy, faithfulness... but let’s not stop just there, others need to also learn about His hatred towards sin, immortality, disobedience... and of His Judgment!
Jesus said, when the Holy Spirit comes, He will convict the world of sin, righteousness and judgment (in that order – check John 16:8) and how does He do that? One of the ways by which He does is by displaying it through our lives! Is this happening from your life? If yes, then you are truly reflecting God’s Light! But if not, I pray that you seek God’s help to make sure it happens, since He has made this truth know to you today in the simplest way and hence you are answerable to Him!
So from now on begin to live as people of Light, reflecting God’s character, as now you have Light from the Lord. Come on… what are you waiting for? Get on with it!
