Scripture: “Herald and preach the Word! Keep your sense of urgency [stand by, be at hand and ready], whether the opportunity seems to be favorable or unfavorable. [Whether it is convenient or inconvenient, whether it is welcome or unwelcome, you as preacher of the Word are to show people in what way their lives are wrong.] And convince them, rebuking and correcting, warning and urging and encouraging them, being unflagging and inexhaustible in patience and teaching.” – 2Timothy 4:2 (AMPC).
Meditate: Jesus commanded us very clearly to preach the Gospel (Good News) and teach His precepts to live by as Christians (His disciples and followers) in Matthew 28:19,20. And here by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, Paul writes how to approach Jesus’ command:
1. What to preach? “Preach the Word!”
2. When to preach? At all times we are to “stand by, be at hand and ready” whether the opportunity seems favorable or not.
3. How to preach? We are to convince them by “rebuking, correcting, earning, urging and encouraging them by unflagging and inexhaustible in patience and teaching.
I hardly see this happening in present day Christendom and those who do so are called, legalistic, radical or fanatical by those who call themselves Christians.
As you can see, we are told preach and teach, that’s all. Be wise and leave the ‘saving the person part’ to the Holy Spirit to convict them of their sins and their need to receive Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. Do not hinder the work of the Holy Spirit by trying to save the person in your zealousness. Because of such immaturity, many lost souls and even people who were once believers have distanced themselves from the Lord and have wandered away from faith.
Mature Christians who have a proper relationship with the Holy Spirit, preach, teach and pray trusting the Holy Spirit to do what He alone can – convict a lost soul to realize he/she is a sinner and that’s why they urgently need Jesus as their personal Savior and Lord!
Jesus said, “Go then and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you, and behold, I am with you all the days (perpetually, uniformly, and on every occasion), to the [very] close and consummation of the age. Amen (so let it be).” – Matthew 28:19-20 (AMPC).
Are you going to obey Him? But before you do that, first make sure that you yourself have been properly saved and have an intimate personal relationship with the Holy Spirit.
Yes dear God’s children, it’s time to obey Jesus’ command to go preach the Gospel “Good News” and teach those who accept Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior about kingdom lifestyle and living.
